On 01 April 2015, the Education and Library Boards ceased to exist and in their place the Education Authority (EA) was created. EA is a single organisation with responsibility for delivering education services across Northern Ireland.
This is the beginning of a journey which will eventually see equality of access to education services for all children and young people regardless of where they live or what their background is.
A programme of work is under way to develop regional services, policies and procedures. However, the most important message right now is that, as far as users of our services are concerned, nothing changes in the short term. Bringing together the structures of the five ELBs into one organisation is a complex task and will happen gradually over a number of years. In the interim, the staff and structures of the ELBs will continue to operate as five sub regions of the Education Authority.
