The Distance and/or the Route Measured is incorrect
Before making an appeal regarding the measurement, please carefully consider the following information.
Transport assistance is based on the distance from your home to the nearest suitable school.
The distance measured is the nearest available route and consequently it is not always measured via the road network and will typically include footpaths or pathways.
In assessing eligibility for transport assistance, the Authority uses a Geographical Information System (GIS) to electronically calculate a definitive measurement from your home to school using the most available route based on maps and an address database supplied by Land & Property Services (LPS) which holds the common standard address for every property in Northern Ireland.
Whilst other mapping systems are comparable e.g. Google Maps, Bing Maps, AA/RAC route finder, 'Sat Navs'. these systems do not provide the required level of accuracy to determine the actual distance. Likewise distances recorded on vehicle odometers are not considered to have the required level of accuracy.
Having carefully considered this information, if you still wish to appeal on the basis of distance please complete the Application Form For Appeals and return it to your local transport office. Contact details can be found here.
If the Appeal is refused
If the Appeal is refused there is no further right of Appeal to the Education Authority.
