Staff Training

All catering staff receive training to ensure the highest standards of food safety, food preparation, menu planning and how to provide a healthier school meals service. 

Some examples of the variety of training which we provide to catering staff include:

  • Initial induction training
  • Educator training course
  • Food hygiene training
  • Health and Safety Training including first aid, fire equipment training and manual handling
  • Nutrition awareness and special diets
  • Menu planning and food presentation
  • Marketing and promotion including customer care
  • Supervisory development including communication skills, managing people, equality training and policy awareness
  • Financial management for Catering Supervisors
  • Information Technology skills training
  • Practical skills training

The Education and Library Boards (ELBs) were dissolved on 31 March 2015. The Education Authority was established on 01 April 2015 and is now responsible for all of the operational functions previously carried out by the five ELBs in accordance with the Education Orders.
