Pre-school Admissions Guide

Although pre-school isn't compulsory it has benefits. Our guide will help you understand more about the process and what to expect when applying for a place in pre-school for your child.

Late Applications

During the admissions procedure when pre-schools are applying their admissions criteria punctual applications will be considered before late applications are considered.

The application procedure opened on 7 January 2020 at 12 noon (GMT) and an application submitted by the closing date of 30 January 2020 at 12 noon (GMT) will be treated as a punctual application

An application received after 12 noon (GMT) on 30 January 2020 will be treated as a late application – Late in Stage 1 (Target Age) and late throughout the procedure for a penultimate (underage) application

You can submit a late application at any time but only those received by 12.00 noon on 7 February 2020 will be processed during the Pre-School (Target–Stage 1) admissions procedure.  Late applications received after this date will not be considered until the Stage 1 admissions procedure has ended on 28 April 2020. A late application for a penultimate (underage) child will be processed in Stage 2 commencing 29 April 2020.

Within Stage 2 of the Pre-School Admissions procedure:-

  • A nomination of further preferences for children who were unplaced in Stage 1, if submitted after 4pm on 5 May 2020 (treated as late)
  • A new Target age first time application, if submitted after 4pm on 5 May 2020 (treated as late)
  • New preference(s) for target age child who was offered a funded place at Stage 1 and that offer has now been refused (treated as late)
  • New Underage first time application/documents (treated as late)

5 May 2020 is the last date in Stage 2 for receipt of any of the above.  If received after 5 May 2020 it will not be processed until after the close of Stage 2 (8 June 2020).

Having a late application could reduce your child’s likelihood of gaining a place in your preferred school i.e. should the school you are applying to receive more applications than it has places available it will firstly consider all punctual applications (including second and subsequent preference applications) before your application is considered.
