Primary Schools Admission Guide

Our guide will help you understand more about the process and what to expect when applying for a place in primary school for your child.

Primary school preference guidance

It is recommended to list at least four preferences as there is no guarantee your child will be accepted into the first preference.  You will only be asked for further preferences if your child is unsuccessful in obtaining a place at the end of the admissions process at which point many schools will have filled all available Primary 1 places.

Do not list the same school more than once.

Ensure you choose the correct school when listing preferences.  Some schools have similar names but will be clearly identified by their locality e.g. St Mary's Primary School, Omagh or St Mary's PS Banbridge etc.

Admissions criteria

The Board of Governors of each school is responsible for determining and applying the admissions criteria.  Any queries on the content of criteria should be directed to the school.
