Applications for a post primary school place

The online application for post primary school places closes at 12 noon on Thursday 22 February 2024.

Parents who submitted an online application were able to rate the process. 93.9% rated the process as very good or good.

Applications submitted by parents by 12 noon on 22 February will be marked as ‘punctual’ on EA Connect.

Please Note - parents can continue to upload documents in support of their application until 4pm on 4 March 2024.

Parents can also submit paper applications up to 4pm on 4 March 2024.

Paper applications received after the close of the portal and up to 4pm on 4 March will be added to EA Connect by Admissions staff and will be marked as ‘late’ on EA Connect. Most schools have stated in their admissions criteria how they will treat late applications.

Paper applications received after 4pm on 4 March 2024 will not be processed until after 18 May 2024.

Next steps

The EA Admissions team is currently carrying out housekeeping checks on the applications submitted.

Schools can record decisions on EA Connect from 9am on Monday 26 February 2024.

First preference applications must be selected by Friday 8 March 2024.

When an application is ‘Not Selected’ it moves immediately to the next preference school. This means that you may see 2nd preference applications before you have recorded your 1st preference decisions depending on when other schools enter their decisions.

As we move through the clearing house procedure, may we ask that schools record decisions on applications as promptly as possible including applications with claims for special circumstances or special provisions. If applications are held as pending at a school and then refused late in the procedure, it leaves little time for consideration by the other schools listed on the application.

There can be up to 12 preferences listed on an application. Schools will need to arrange meetings with relevant decision-making personnel at frequent intervals, especially towards the end of the process.

Requesting a Temporary Variation (TV)

Requests for TVs should be made to DE as soon as possible by submitting a TV request form. While awaiting a TV decision you should select pupils up to your admissions number and refuse any pupils above your admissions number for whom you have not requested a TV. You should not select or refuse the pupils listed on the request form until you know the outcome.
