Staff Update - 31 December 2020
EA Guidance for Schools - Arrangements for January 2021
Education Minister Peter Weir has announced revised plans for schools reopening after the Christmas break following updated advice on the current health situation.
EA has developed phase specific guidance which can be accessed by schools through the C2K exchange.
Should principals require urgent assistance in light of the ministerial announcement please see contact details on the C2K exchange. The EA COVID-19 helplines will resume on Sunday 3 January as per the communication issued on 18 December.
Staff Update - 30 December 2020
The NI Assembly has taken a decision to meet on Thursday 31st December to debate the Covid-19 impact on children returning to school next week. Pending the outcome of that debate, further updates will be issued to schools as to how EA can support schools in the new term.
The Executive has issued a directive on enhanced restrictions which took effect from 26 December 2020. This means some changes to our safety practices in EA offices to help limit the spread of Covid.
Face coverings now required
Staff are now required to wear face coverings in communal areas (i.e. areas away from their desks including toilets, corridors, reception areas etc) in EA buildings. Staff are also expected to continue to wear face coverings where they are in enclosed spaces for periods exceeding 15 minutes, even where social distancing can be maintained. Where staff are unable to wear face coverings due to medical conditions, they should liaise with their line manager.
From Monday 4th January, face coverings will be available to staff in the reception area of all our offices.
While schools are open, we have to determine the best way to support them. The position remains that where staff can work from home and deliver their service effectively and fully, they should work from home. It is therefore requested that all line managers review the current working arrangements for staff currently in the office to ensure staff who can work from home on a full time or part time basis are facilitated to do so in line with the Executive guidance. Staff should only attend EA buildings to carry out duties which cannot be carried out from home. This will remain subject to review in accordance with evolving government guidance.
New guidance for clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV)
From 26 December, people in this category who are unable to work from home are advised not to attend the workplace. If you are in this category, liaise with your line manager.
