It is aimed at a slightly younger age group – fifteen and sixteen year olds. The format will take the ‘journey’ aspect from the other older age group courses and extend it to five days continuous travelling through some of Ireland’s most beautiful wild places and waterways. The participants will travel often using a variety of means of progress in small self-contained groups camping or bivouacking along the way.
This is both a physically and mentally challenging adventure for those who consider themselves reasonably fit. It will involve travelling through and living in a variety of outdoor environments.
The course will start and finish at Gortatole where initially activity and camping skills will be developed before setting out on the journey of a lifetime - into yourself as well as alongside your group of like-minded new friends.
Only individual applications with full course fee will be accepted. Places will normally be allocated on a first come first served basis as they are received however the EA Youth Service reserves the right to accept applications for this course on other than a first-come-first-serve basis. This would be done to achieve a balance amongst participants – Applicants may be asked to attend an information day/interview before places are allocated. Unsuccessful applicants will have their course fee refunded in full. The closing date represents an administrative arrangement by which the course viability is judged and applicants informed of their allocation. Any empty places will continue to be filled on a first come first served basis.
