The centre has undergone a recent refurbishment to improve and modernise the centre so it meets the needs of the children and young people within the local area.

After becoming a full time youth centre in 2009 with a strong membership uptake, the centre has provided opportunities and a safe space for the personal development of local young people.

Arlene Kee, Assistant Director for Youth Services stated,

“The Hammer Youth Centre is a critical resource in the community and the recent investment by the Education Authority demonstrates our continued commitment to providing high quality youth services for children and young people.

It is important to the Education Authority that all our youth centres in communities feel open, accessible and welcoming to not only children and young people but the entire community.  I think we can all agree the design, look and feel of this new building makes a bold statement and a centre that the local community can be proud of.”

With the centre officially reopening today, the youth centre will play a crucial role in addressing the health and wellbeing needs of young people especially as we move forward out of the Covid-19 pandemic and into the upcoming summer season.
