Fermanagh and Omagh Youth Voice Launch
6th May 2022
The Education Authority (EA) is excited to announce its launch of an exciting new opportunity for young people in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.
Youth Voice Fermanagh and Omagh (Youth Voice F&O) is seeking young people between the ages of 16 and 21 who live in the Fermanagh and Omagh area to represent the views of their peers across the district and have a say on key local issues.
Youth Voice F&O will provide opportunities for members to articulate the views and experiences of young people by participating in a range of ways, as well as advocating and lobbying on behalf of young people on issues which are important to them. Members will be supported to develop knowledge, skills and approaches to maximise their contribution to the programme.
A series of study visits, residentials and other social activities will give members the space to build relationships with peers from across the district, who share a passion to be a voice for young people in their area.
Ryan McGee, Senior Youth Officer from the Education Authority Youth Service, said:
“Youth Voice F&O will be fun and engaging, as well as providing a very real opportunity for young people to have their say across the district on key themes and issues that are real and important to them. We need new young people with fresh and innovative ideas coming through to make sure our area is the best it can be and are at the heart of our planning and discussions”.
Welcoming the opportunity, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Errol Thompson said:
“I am delighted that the Council is working in partnership with the Education Authority on the Youth Voice F&O. This programme will provide our young people with a forum to take forward common issues relating to young people in the local area along with opportunities for residentials and to participate in study visits. I believe our young people are the leaders of today and the future and this programme will enable them to develop their leadership and decision-making skills to ensure the voices of our young people are heard.”
Youth Voice F&O will meet on a weekly basis to identify and take forward common issues relating to young people in the local area, as well as offering opportunities for residentials and participation in study visits to the UK or Ireland. Successful applicants will be selected to serve a two year term.
Membership of Youth Voice F & O is open to all young people regardless of background, abilities or interests. For more information on Youth Voice F&O, please visit the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council website.
The closing date for applications is Friday 13th May 2022.
