Refugee Week 15th - 22nd June 2020
As part of the week of events celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees in Northern Ireland, the Education Authority’s Intercultural Education Service (IES) interviewed author and illustrator Helen Patuck who has created many wonderful resources for refugee and other newcomer children.
Helen published an Arabic/English book in 2019 called ‘When the Lights Go Out’ which was designed with children from across Northern Ireland and based on the experiences of refugee children and young people from Syria. Her latest book ’My Hero is You’ aims to alleviate children’s fear children’s concerns about the Covid-19 pandemic. The book is free to read in over 130 languages and can be found at: https://www.unicef.org.
