Honours Awards Guidance

Honours are given to people from all walks of life and across every section of society who have made a difference to their community. There are several different types of award, each one recognising a different type of contribution.

Nominating Candidates for Honours Awards

Honours lists are published twice a year - at New Year and in mid-June on The Queen's official birthday.

The application process to nominate candidates opens in February for the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June and in September for the New Year Honours.

The Education Authority recognises that there are many exceptional people from across Northern Ireland working in the education sector who have shown outstanding service and dedication which has enriched the lives of thousands of young people across Northern Ireland over the years.

Honours committees look for someone who has made a real difference in their field of work or community.

If there is someone in the education sector that has made a valuable contribution who you wish to nominate for an Honour, please visit the NI Direct website at the below link to find out more about the nomination process -
