Application Process

The process for the reconstitution of Boards of Governors for the next four year term of office (2018-2022) has now been initiated by the Department of Education (DE).

As part of this process the Education Authority (EA) and the DE will be appointing governor representatives on an ongoing basis during this four year term of office.

In the initial stages of this process current serving EA governors will be contacted and invited to apply, for consideration, to be reappointed. Current governors must complete the governor application form before being considered for reappointment.

New applications are always welcome and invited for EA and DE school governor positions.

The Board of Governors of a school has an important strategic role to play in the management of a school alongside the Principal including: the setting of plans and policies; appointing school staff; and the monitoring of school performance. Primarily school governors should make sure that the school provides its pupils with a good education.

Those applying to be a school governor have to be interested in education and have a commitment to the work of the school.  Although applicants do not need particular skills or experience to be eligible to be a school governor it is desirable that members have a range of competences, skills and experience to enable them to make a positive contribution to the governance of the school.

The application process for appointing EA representatives to serve on Boards of Governors is an ongoing one throughout the four year term of office (2018-2022) of a school governor. During the initial appointment phase receipted applications will be assessed periodically from 1st March 2018 onwards.
