The Scheme sets out the policy and procedures for the recruitment and selection of all teaching staff employed by controlled schools in Northern Ireland.

Teaching Appointments Scheme Online Learning

The Teaching Appointments Scheme online learning materials serve to extend the support and training provided to principals and governors in controlled schools. By clicking here, the viewer can access a number of short video programmes. 

Two introductory video programmes provide an overview of the online learning materials and an introduction to the Teaching Appointments Scheme. Five further video programmes offer a step-by-step guide to the main stages in the selection process, in accordance with the Teaching Appointments Scheme. The material is suitable for viewing by individual selection panel members, and/ or by the full Board of Governors (or a Committee thereof).  

Teaching Appointments Scheme

The Teaching Appointments Scheme was approved by the Board of the Education Authority on 28 January 2016 and replaces the transitional scheme with effect from the 1 February 2016. The Scheme document, along with the Guide to the Selection Process, is available to download. Controlled schools should ensure that all recruitment exercises undertaken to appoint teachers, vice principals or principals to controlled schools, are conducted in line with the procedure as outlined within the scheme. Any queries regarding the scheme should be addressed in the first instance to the appropriate HR Section.

Scheme for the Management of Controlled Schools

The Scheme for the Management of Controlled Schools was approved by the Board of the Education Authority on 28 January 2016 and replaces the transitional scheme with effect from the 1 February 2016.
