Beginning Teachers Induction and Early Professional Development

Induction and EPD normally take 3 years to complete (possibly longer depending on your employment circumstances). You will be supported through this process by the Induction and EPD team at the Education Authority.

You will also receive advice, guidance and support from your Teacher Tutor and other colleagues in the school(s) in which you may be working.

Please note online registration for Induction/EPD and Teacher Tutors is now closed and will reopen in September/October.

Dear Teacher

If you are available to teach at the moment, please update your NISTR information accordingly and indicate if you have a first aid qualification. Schools will be in contact due to staffing shortages throughout N Ireland.

Induction and EPD teachers should retain evidence of what they have completed thus far for future discussion with their teacher tutor. Teachers will be supported where possible in their progression according to their individual circumstances.

What do you do next?

  1. Register with the Education Authority Northern Ireland. To do this first follow the link to either Induction or Early Professional Development in the navigation bar.
  2. Register with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI)
  3. Register with the Northern Ireland Substitute Teacher Register (NISTR)

If you wish to talk to someone with regard to any aspect of Induction, Early Professional Development (EPD) or the role of the Teacher Tutor, please go to the ‘Contacts Page’ on the navigation bar.
