Language & Communication

The EA Language & Communication Service (LCS) supports pupils with identified language difficulties as a primary area of need.

The Education Authority’s Language and Communication Service (LCS) supports children from preschool and throughout primary school education who have language and communication needs.

This may be where a child has either one or both of the following:

  • Receptive Language - Difficulty understanding or processing what is being said.

  • Expressive Language - Difficulty in retrieving words and speaking in sentences.

During the period of school closure Service staff are unable to provide direct intervention.

Nevertheless, enquiries and requests for advice can be made either by:

Telephone 028 8241 1574

If your child is not currently referred to the Service or if they have recently been referred and you are looking for some general advice regarding your child’s language needs, please ring the telephone number above.

If your child is already receiving support from the Service, please ring the number above or email your query and your message will be forwarded to the LCS staff member who works with your child.

Leave your child’s name and the name of the LCS staff member who is working with them.

The staff member concerned will get back to you as soon as possible to help you with your query.

If a child has difficulty with producing speech sounds then HSCT Speech and Language Therapy may best support this.

Over the coming weeks the Service will add some useful links to website/Apps/resources etc. to help you support your child’s language and communication needs.
