Student Finance NI

Student Finance NI is a partnership between the Education Authority, the Department for the Economy and the Student Loans Company.

We are responsible for processing applications for financial support for full-time higher education, part-time higher education and postgraduate courses.

We also administer and pay support on behalf of the Department of Health for students on Allied Health Professional courses at Ulster University and for 5th year Medical /Dental students at UK institutions.

Full Time Higher Education

You can apply for a non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan and a means tested Maintenance Loan and Maintenance Grant for day to day living costs.  Other supplementary grants such as the Disabled Students’ Allowance and Dependants’ Grants are also available.

Part Time Higher Education

For the 2024/25 Academic Year you can apply for a Fee Loan of up to £3562.50 and a means tested Fee Grant of up to £1230 to help pay your fees together with a means tested course grant of up to £265 to cover costs with travel, books and course material.

Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan

For the 2024/25 academic year a non-means tested Tuition Fee Loan of up to £6,500 will be available for new postgraduate students to help with tuition fee costs. The Postgraduate Fee Loan will remain capped at £5,500 for students who commenced their current course prior to 2023/24.
