Early Career Teachers Induction and Early Professional Development

Information on Induction and Early Professional Development (EPD), how to register and the role of the Teacher Tutor.

Induction and Early Professional Development (EPD) normally take 3 years to complete (possibly longer depending on your employment circumstances). You will be supported through this process by the Induction and EPD team at the Education Authority. You will also receive advice, guidance and support from your Teacher Tutor and other colleagues in the school(s) in which you may be working.

What do you do next?

  1. Register with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).
  2. To supply teach, register with the Northern Ireland Supply Teacher Register (NISTR).
  3. To access ECT professional learning opportunities and receive updates register with the Education Authority. Please note that registration reopens on 21 August 2026.
