Guide for Schools – Handling FOI requests

The EA Information Governance Team have developed the below document for the purpose of assisting schools (i.e. School Management) to understand and comply with the schools’ obligations under the Freedom of Information Act. The document explains what an FOI request is, how to comply with and apply the FOIA and contains some templates which we hope that schools will find useful when corresponding with information requesters.

Should your school require any additional advice and guidance on handling a Freedom of Information Request, they can contact the EA Information Governance Team to request further support by calling 028 9047 5011 or by emailing infogov@eani.org.uk.

FOI Compliance Checklist for Schools

As a public authority, each school is responsible for complying with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000. To help schools identify which areas of FOI legislation they are currently compliant with, and which areas may require further attention, we have developed the following checklist.

Should your school require any additional advice and guidance on any aspect of this checklist, they can contact the EA Information Governance Team to request further support by calling 028 9047 5011 or by emailing infogov@eani.org.uk.
