Consultations

The Education Authority is committed to fully involving staff, service users, local communities and the wider public in the planning and development of services.

EA are committed to listening to what you have to say. In order to carry out effective consultations we need to be open about what we aim to achieve and carry them out in an accessible and consistent manner. This framework outlines our approach to consultation and engagement by setting out our aims and commitments in line with our values.

You may be aware that the Department of Education launched its consultation on the new SEN Regulations and supporting Code of Practice on 30 September 2020 and this will be open until 22 December 2020 (www.education-ni.gov.uk).

The SEN Framework comprises three key elements, namely:

  • the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Act (NI) 2016;
  • new SEN Regulations; and
  • a new Code of Practice.

The statutory responsibility for securing provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) rests with both schools and the Education Authority (EA). The EA is now commencing consultation on two frameworks which set out the vison, rationale and delivery plans for SEN provision across Northern Ireland.

Consultations provide our wide range of stakeholders with an opportunity to have their say. We will publish consultation documents in this section of the website.

For Area Planning Pre-Publication Consultations please see our Area Planning page.
