Parent and Teacher Governor Elections

1. Invitation to Participate in an Election: Write to parents and invite them to participate in the election of a parent governor(s) and inform them of the procedure to be used for nominating candidate and voting.
2. Seeking Nominations: When a vacancy for a parent governor arises, a letter or email should be sent to all parent informing them of the vacancy and inviting applications for the role of governor. Parents interested in standing as parent governor should complete and submit the Candidate Nomination Form and Personal Statement Form.
3. The Ballot, Voting and Scrutiny: A ballot is needed if the number of persons nominated is greater than the vacancies available, this ballot should be conducted in a fair and transparent manner and votes counted in the presence of two witnesses. If there is a tie, a second ballot should be held.
4. Conducting the Vote: There are three ways an election can be conducted either during a parent meeting, by post or by using electronic methods.
5. Returns to EA: Within seven days of the conclusion of the election process, results must be completed and returned to our School Governance Service using the Outcome of Parent Governor Election form.

1. Invitation to Participate in an Election and Seeking Nominations: Inform all the teachers of the election, seek nominations from the permanent teachers and invite them to participate. Include all eligible teachers including those who may be on Leave.
2. Procedure at the Meeting: A ballot is needed if the number of persons nominated is greater than the vacancies available, this ballot should be conducted in a fair and transparent manner and votes counted in the presence of two witnesses. If there is a tie, a second ballot should be held.
