School Library Services

Services offered to schools.

Topic Packs

The Education Library Service (ELS) provide cross curricular topic packs supplied directly to teachers to support the delivery of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. These packs comprise fiction and non-fiction titles and are on loan for an 8-week period. Please contact your local Education Library Service for more information.

Book Ordering

Schools can avail of the excellent discount that is provided through the Education Library Service’s contract for pre-serviced library books.

Our current supplier, Brownsbfs, offers up to 42% off the RRP for individual titles and up to 85% off the RRP for book packs.

Servicing

There is the option to have full servicing (barcodes, labelling and plastic jackets at a cost of 45p per book) or plastic jackets only (at a cost of 20p per book.).

Servicing for books within the book packs are not included in the total cost of the order but we will receive a separate invoice for these from Browns e.g. a pack of 10 books is viewed as 1 item on the order, but we will be invoiced for the other 9. The librarian handing the order will factor this cost into it and let the school know.

What’s involved:

  1. One of the Senior Education Librarians will have a conversation with the relevant person within the school to establish what you would like to order.
  2. The school can be set up to put an order together or we can do it on your behalf (or a combination of both).
  3. An authorisation form must be completed. This gives us permission to proceed with the order and allows us to manage it within the budget specified by the school.
  4. When the order has been processed, the books will be delivered to the relevant EA office.
  5. Invoices are checked and passed to EA for payment.
  6. The books will be delivered directly to the school. There may be more than one delivery depending on how quickly the books arrive with us.
  7. Once the order is complete, the payment will be recouped from the school. This is done in one of two ways. Journal Transfer (using the school’s cost code) – usually for primary schools, but not exclusively, or we put the details onto iProc. We can advise the school on which we will be doing.
  8. The school will only be charged for what they receive e.g. some books may go out of print or are not available from the publisher.

Please contact your local Education Library Service for more information.
