School Governance

Information on the Education Authority (EA) School Governance Service and how to apply to become an EA School Governor.

Governors play a key role in the leadership and management of schools.   EA wishes to thank all school governors for their time, commitment and dedication to improving educational standards in all our schools.

The School Governance Service:

  • Oversees the appointment of school governors to Boards of Governors in controlled schools on an ongoing basis.
  • Appoints EA Governors to boards of governors in controlled, controlled integrated, Catholic maintained and Irish medium schools.
  • Manages the reconstitution process of boards of governors in controlled schools.
  • Provides support and advice to Chairpersons of Boards of Governors on the implementation of the Scheme for the Management of Controlled Schools.
  • Leads on a number of key projects that positively impact school governance and school improvement.
  • Manages the governor training programme.
