Education Information Solutions Programme (EdIS)

The EdIS programme replaces the programme formally known as ETS and is designed to develop solutions for education.

The Education Information Solutions (EdIS) Programme is a change programme designed with children and young people and their learning experience at its centre.  The Programme will support the learning experience for children and young people over the next 10 years and beyond.

Programme outcomes will facilitate the transformation of learning and teaching through embracing emerging technology and with continuous improvement at its core. It will transform children and young people’s learning experience, develop skills for the future, improve educational outcomes and facilitate professional learning for school staff.

Current Projects

The EdIS Programme will provide  a fully integrated and interoperable Education Service for Schools which will provide anywhere anytime access to, and support for, the EdIS services relating to school improvement and teaching and learning.

The EdIS Education Service for Schools comprises the following projects:

Network Connectivity

Provision of  increased broadband connectivity for schools. The new service means schools will seea significant increase in bandwidth from their exising provision, with primary schools bandwith increasing by a factor of 5  and post primary schools doubling their bandwidth. As EdIS services are rolled out the bandwith in each school will increase further. For the first time nursery schools will be provided with high quality connectivity allowing them to access future EdIS services for nurseries.

In delivering upgraded connecivity, we are building the foundations for the onboarding of future services. To date over 70% of schools have been migrated and remaining schools will be contacted between now and the end of the year to arrange for delivery of the upgraded bandwith.

Wireless Connectivity

Provision of an enhanced wireless solution to replace the existing C2k wireless in schools. Schools will receive greater coverage in all classrooms and agreed communal areas.

In delivering enhanced wireless coverage, we are improving the local area network infrastructure in preparation for the onboarding of future services. Piloting  of the wireless solution has already started with the aim of commencing the rollout programme to to schools in the next few months.

Updated and Modern Infrastructure

Delivered through a Strategic Partner, the EdIS education environment will include:

  • centralised services to provide storage and compute facilities for schools,
  • identity services ensuring appropiate and authorised access for users; and
  • security services to protect schools’ and users’ information, assets and services.

The key component is an integration platform which will ensure that all services and systems integrate seamlessly, providing school staff and learners with an interoperable end-to- end solution.

A flexible approach will be adopted to providing schools with refreshed end user devices as and when existing devices reach end of life and are deemed suitable for replacement.

School Management System (SMS)

To provide a single School Management System (SMS) across schools, which improves the management and flow of data between schools, parents and EA support services and supports collaborative and multi-school working. Secure and flexible access to a centralised record system along with automated processes will reduce the administrative burden and provide ready access to information that supports each student throughout their educational career.  The SMS will also provide tools to complete the statutory and business critical processes of schools and support schools to identify trends, prioritise resources to inform planning resulting in targeted interventions for the student to enhance their learning experience.

Data Analytics

Utilise digital tools to support coherent uses of data, target and manage resources, enable evidence-based approaches and support communities.

Use data entered once that is then available in a range of formats to analyse trends that are automatically identified, including links to system wide data.  Planning tools linked in real time will facilitate modelling exercises so that various scenarios can be interrogated during the decision-making process.

Schools will have access to dashboards of SMS and system wide data to benchmark their practice, evaluate the impact of their work and inform their school improvement journey.

Digital Learning Environment

The Digital Learning Environment will encompass collaboration and communication and curriculum applications with associated Teacher Professional Learning, as well as classroom management and health and wellbeing applications, all underpinned by the supporting infrastructure incorporating the School Management System with Data Insights, to support the implementation of the NI curriculum and the development of skills for the workforce of the future.

Teacher Devices

The provision of 20,410 fit for purpose teacher devices that will help provide teachers with the flexibility to deliver a pupil centred learning approach, which will elevate the learner experience.  The new devices will provide access to the existing EN(ni) and new EdIS learning environments that deliver the latest tools to help improve the outcomes for children and young people.  The devices will facilitate online collaboration with pupils, teachers and stakeholders, secure sharing of resources and the ability to build learning networks while in school and at home.

Unified Customer Portal

Unified Customer Portal aims to deliver a seamless experience to parents by delivering a single sign on portal to access key EA digital services namely Admissions, Free School Meals & Uniform Grant, Transport, Special Education Needs (SEN) and Pupil Support Services.

Unified Financial Portal

Unified Financial Portal will digitise payments and remove cash from the system by providing secure, reliable payment mechanisms for transactions between parents and schools.

Case Management System

Development of a digital system that will enable the tracking and storing of pupil information in a centralised location.  It will be accessible to a variety of users to ensure collaboration on cases and the sharing of information in a secure environment.

Northern Ireland Substitute Teachers Register (NISTR)

To provide a “mobile first” application that allows substitute teachers to easily register and make themselves available for work and for school users to book and pay substitute teachers through a vastly streamlined and user-friendly process.

Future Projects

Teacher Professional Learning (TPL)

Deliver a platform to facilitate the professional development of teachers and enabling networking and collaborative learning. We aim to build on the Learning Leaders policy to build networks for sharing best practice.

Community Use of Schools

Community Use of Schools will provide an online tool to allow school facilities to be booked by community organisations/bodies, approved by school management and paid for.

Child Protection Case Management

The Child Protection Case Management system will provide a centralised electronic records management system that contains secure recording of, and access to, relevant safeguarding data relating to a child/young person at risk of significant harm, concerns, plans, and actions with child protection case management and allegations of abuse against staff including a robust reporting functionality.  This project covers the statutory requirements of dealing with disclosures or staff concern(s) of abuse/neglect that have been triaged and warrant the creation of a Child Protection File.

Library Management System

The Library Management System will support a holistic approach to curriculum delivery and literacy development for all schools and EOTAS centres.  Pupils, librarians, and teachers will become part of an online, collaborative community that supports lifelong learning and fosters a love of reading. The innovative functions of the system will streamline processes such as circulating resources, auditing stock and reporting trend analyses throughout the Education Library Service provision in Northern Ireland.

Music Management System

The Music Management System will provide a centralised solution to integrate both operational and educational requirements within the EA Music Service.  Streamlined administrative processes around tuition, payment, and stock management will enhance efficiency and a robust reporting function will support Music Service development and innovation into the future. Music staff will also be given access to relevant pupil information to facilitate differentiation to suit the individual needs of their learners.

Finance & Payroll Management System

To provide financial and payroll management systems to schools in the Voluntary Grammar and Grant Maintained Integrated sectors.

The financial management system supports statutory and business critical school processes, reduces administration and improves data quality and flow.  Detailed, accurate and up-to-date data ensures efficient delegation of delegated budgets to maximise provision of educational services.

C2K: Current and Future

The overall purpose of C2K is to ensure continuity of service for schools and stakeholders pre–transition to replacement services; the embedding of new services during a phased transition and planned exit of the EN(ni) contract to ensure stability and continual service improvement.

This will allow schools to continue to carry out their statutory duties and continue to deliver high quality teaching and learning during the overall EdIS programme.

ENNI Transition of Service

This project ensures the smooth transition from the ENNI contract to the new EdIS Services.  This will include managing hardware, licences, software and data cleansing in preparation for the migration of services.
