Centre based youth worker Jamie King hosted the visit alongside Senior Youth Worker Team Leader Adrian Hutchinson.

Doug first met with the dedicated staff team based in Drumgor which is made up of a team of part time staff and volunteers. Many of the staff team have come through the youth service as young people and now volunteer their time to give back to the local community. A number of the staff shared their goals of now heading to university to become qualified youth workers.

As young people started to enter the youth centre for the evening youth provision, Doug got a full tour of the centre hearing all about how the young people make use of the social areas and kitchen space. Agne, one of the centres youth workers, was working hard, cooking the centre’s favourite dish, tomato pasta, whilst teaching young people the various steps.

Jamie introduced Doug to one of the centre’s newest spaces, “The Young Makers Studio” an innovation space with technical equipment to create personalised goods, branded t-shirts and mugs and a brand-new embroidery set up. The space is where young people can take creativity to the next level, learn how to set up their own businesses and create products that can generate profit for a social cause.

The evening was the final day of summer provision and to celebrate, the INSERT COMPANY came on site to host a colour run. Juniors went first followed by all of senior provision. The seniors decided Jamie was looking a little too clean.

The visit finished up with the young people heading inside to enjoy some food and their final night at the centre before it closed for a well-deserved break ahead of the new school year beginning.
