Almost 600 educators have attended the Dungannon and Cookstown Area Learning Community (ALC) Teacher Conference, held on Monday, 29th September 2025.
The "Power-up Conference," designed to equip teachers with evidence-informed classroom strategies, fostered a vibrant day of professional collaboration and learning across the region.
The event featured acclaimed keynote speakers Bruce Robertson, author of ‘The Teaching Delusion’, and Kate Jones of Evidence Based Education. They inspired delegates with practical sessions on powerful questioning and workload-friendly feedback strategies. The day was further enriched by a carousel of workshops presented by local teaching experts, covering cutting-edge topics from Artificial Intelligence to inclusive classroom practices and cognitive science.
Overwhelmingly, feedback from participants highlighted the immense value of networking and subject-specific collaboration. “The opportunity to connect with fellow subject specialists from other schools was invaluable,” noted one delegate, a sentiment echoed by many who have since formed professional networks to continue sharing resources and best practice.
The conference’s focus on deepening pedagogical knowledge aligns directly with the Department of Education’s drive towards a Knowledge Rich Curriculum. The strong demand from teachers for more in-depth, subject-focused collaboration presents a clear pathway for the ALC’s future development, ensuring that the energy from this event translates into sustained improvement in classroom practice for the benefit of all pupils across the region.
