Volunteers’ Week is a national celebration of the vital contribution that volunteers make across society.  Every year, thousands of governors give of their time to work together with school principals to manage schools strategically. Their voluntary contributions support schools in providing the best educational opportunities for all our children and young people.

Speaking at the seminar Interim Director of Education, Cynthia Currie said: “Volunteers are frequently the unseen force behind the scenes, and it is a pleasure to be here today to celebrate and thank you for all your hard work and efforts.

“School governors don’t always get the credit they deserve. Schools cannot function effectively without you. You play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of schools, supporting and challenging leaders, and making sure that every child and young person gets the best possible teaching and learning experience.

“You bring to your boards a wealth of experience, insight and commitment – and today’s governor seminar is about building on that.”

The full day seminar provided governors with an opportunity to pick from a broad range of courses on offer, from SEN and recruitment, to governance, leadership and inclusion. Governors also had the opportunity to meet with EA officers and experienced colleagues who were able to offer support and answer questions.

The EA’s School Governor Seminar was a great opportunity for governors from a wide range of schools to meet face to face with fellow governors and EA officers; leaving the event feeling encouraged, supported, and part of a bigger picture.
