The Met Office has issued a red alert, which covers all of Northern Ireland, and will apply from 7am on Friday until 2pm. This warns of "very dangerous conditions" and "widespread disruption".

The Education Authority has been working closely in partnership with the Department of Education and other multi-agency partners on the response to the Met Office red weather alert.

A communication update was issued by the Education Authority to schools this morning (23 January 2025) to update them on the decision that all schools in Northern Ireland are required to close tomorrow.

While we appreciate that this decision will impact on the work of schools, the more important issue is that we take action to avoid any potential risk to the safety of our children and young people and staff across the sector.

Schools have been advised that they should put plans in place today for remote learning so that pupils can study at home.

Schools have been asked to communicate this decision to parents as soon as practicably possible through their school channels.
