Three Governor Networks for Chairpersons of Controlled Schools have recently taken place, building on the strong engagement and positive feedback from events held earlier this year.

Delivered by the EA School Governance Team, the latest series brought together chairs from across localities, providing a valuable forum for shared learning, discussion and collaboration. The sessions were held at Ards Arena Youth Centre on 26 May (Locality East), Clounagh Teachers’ Centre on 27 May (Locality South West), and Antrim Board Centre on 3 June (Locality North). The Antrim event notably coincided with Volunteers’ Week, recognising the vital contribution of school governors.

The networks offered an important opportunity for chairpersons to connect with EA School Governance staff within their localities, strengthening relationships and ensuring clear points of contact for support and guidance. They also supported the development of peer networks, enabling attendees to share experiences, discuss common challenges and build lasting professional connections.

The Education Authority extends its sincere thanks to all chairpersons who attended. Their commitment, professionalism and dedication to continuous learning are key to ensuring effective governance in controlled schools.

As the networks continue to grow, they will remain an important platform for strengthening leadership, enhancing governance practice and supporting the success of controlled schools across all localities. Following the success of both the February sessions and this latest series, further Governor Networks are already being planned for the 2026/27 academic year, with the EA committed to sustaining this momentum through high-quality opportunities for learning, collaboration and support.
