Moyle Primary School, which has three Specialist Provision learning classes as well as a newer Specialist Provision (Special) class established in September 2025, has been growing its provision for pupils with special educational needs in recent years.

The new play park reflects that commitment, giving Specialist Provision pupils their own dedicated outdoor space for the first time.

The play park, completed by Garden Escapes Ireland, was made possible through the generous support of a number of funders and community organisations, including Carrickfergus Mencap, Tesco Stronger Starts Grant, Larne Credit Union, Pitter Patter, and the Friends and Parents of Moyle. Fencing for the facility was provided by the Education Authority.

The opening was attended by Richard Pengelly, Chief Executive of the Education Authority and Mervyn Storey, Chair of the Board of the Education Authority alongside staff, pupils and supporters.

Gareth Hamilton, Principal of Moyle Primary School, said:

"We are absolutely delighted to open this wonderful new playpark, made possible through the generous funding from Carrickfergus Mencap and additional funding from Tesco Stronger Starts Grant, Larne Credit Union, Pitter Patter, Friends and Parents of Moyle and fencing provided by The Education Authority.

“This space has been thoughtfully designed to support the needs, enjoyment and development of our Specialist Provision pupils, giving them a safe and engaging environment where they can play, explore and thrive. We are incredibly grateful for this support, which will make a meaningful difference to our pupils' daily experiences."

Richard Pengelly, Chief Executive of the Education Authority, said:

"It is a privilege to be here at Moyle Primary School to see this fantastic new play park officially open. Every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn and develop in an environment that meets their needs, and this thoughtfully designed space does exactly that for the Specialist Provision pupils here in Larne. I want to commend the school, its staff and everyone who contributed funding and support to make this project a reality. This is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when schools and communities work together, and I have no doubt it will bring joy to these children for many years to come."

The school would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to all of the organisations and individuals whose contributions made this project possible.
