PEACEPLUS ASPIRE partnership explores Garvagh Forest and supports red squirrel conservation
21 November 2025
St Patrick’s & St Joseph’s Primary School and Garvagh Primary School children recently met up to take part in their PEACEPLUS ASPIRE Shared Education activity in Garvagh Forest.
The pupils were met by Hare’s Corner Cooperative members, to begin their journey through the Green’s Highway project.
The children explored their surroundings as forest detectives, where they had to work out clues and learn how to recognise and record signs of wildlife in their habitats.
This is the partnership’s first step in creating a shared green highway supporting red squirrels’ conservation and biodiversity in their local area of Glenullin and Garvagh.
PEACEPLUS ASPIRE (Advancing Shared Partnerships through Inclusive Relationships in Education) is led by the Education Authority (EA), alongside Léargas, Early Years- the organisation for young children, National Childhood Network (NCN) and the Fermanagh Trust. The project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). It aims to provide direct and sustained contact between children and young people from all backgrounds.
