Rural Youth Work
Youth Service, along with partners from An Carn, Scouts NI, Boys and Girls Club, Youth Action, Bytes and Young Farmers of Ulster launched guidance for full-time and part-time staff, volunteers and community members: ‘Working with Young People in Rural Areas’.
The purpose of the report was to highlight the extent of the social, economic and educational obstacles that rural young people endure in their day to day lives. Desktop research was completed by the EA Information and Planning team, who also held focus groups with young people and youth work staff who work in rural areas.
Lynsey Branniff, Head of Local Youth Services opened the event, outlining the process of developing the guidance, an overview of the key learning points and the commitment EA and partners have to support young people in rural areas.
Practitioners from Scouts NI, Youth Action, EA Youth Service and Bytes discussed their experiences of developing the guidance, providing important insights into this vital work for supporting young people in rural communities.
The event was closed with the official launch of the guidance by a young person, Rhíannon from Óige Charn Tóchair.
