The National Literacy Trust Reading Champions Quiz

Our Education Library Service recently attended the yearly National Literacy Trust Reading Champions Quiz, which is an aspirational event that recognises and celebrates the book knowledge of more than 2,000 keen readers aged 10 to 14.
This year the Northen Ireland heat was held in Killicomaine Junior High School, Portadown on Thursday 27th February 2025.
25 teams entered, representing 16 schools from across Northern Ireland.

Our Senior Education Librarians joined a guest team, including Joffre White, author and UK Patron of Reading.
Speaking about the event, Janet Compston, Education Authority Senior Education Librarian said,
“What a enjoyable day it was with lots of excitement and some very interesting, fun and challenging questions. There were prizes for best dressed book characters and best mascot.”
The winners were Strathearn Team A. They will be heading to London in May to compete in the grand final!
Three teams tied in second place, Clounagh Junior High School, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Team A , and Sullivan Upper School Team B. They will each receive book tokens.
Killicomaine Junior High School hope to host the quiz next year.
