Update on Transport Arrangements – Potential Fuel Protests

23 April 2026

The Education Authority is aware of online calls for protests at various locations across Northern Ireland on Friday 24 April at 4 pm. As before, the level and nature of any potential disruption is very difficult to predict in advance.

We anticipate, at this stage, that transport and other key services will operate as normal, and we will continue to keep the situation under review.

If protests go ahead, there is the potential for some diversions or delays to home to school transport. Staff, parents/carers, and pupils are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys.

The PSNI is leading the operational response and, where there are any protests, they will be on hand to support the emergency services in responding to those with urgent medical needs should disruption occur.

Up‑to‑date information on any traffic disruption or road closures will be available on Traffic Watch NI.

EA’s Transport Helpdesk will be open on 028 9598 5959 from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
