The Getting Ready to Learn programme is universal and open to all pre-school settings with DE funded places who are delivering the CCEA’s Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education to target age children in their Pre-School year.
The Getting Ready to Learn programme aims to support staff within pre-school education settings to engage and empower parents to create, sustain and improve positive and nurturing home learning environments.
How is the Service accessed?
Getting Ready to Learn is an application based process. Nursery schools, Nursery Units, Special Schools with Nursery provision and funded pre-schools can apply for some funding to deliver between 1 and 4 themes, to parents, from the following:
- Big Bedtime Read focusses on developing parents' understanding of the importance of reading to young children, building not only a love of language and foundation for future learning, but also strengthening bonds between parent and child.
- Education Works in Pre-school focuses on increasing parents' understanding of the preschool curriculum and the importance of play; and on encouraging parents to support their children's learning at home.
- Happy Healthy Kids focusses on increasing parents' understanding of the benefits of exercise for pre-school children and on encouraging them to increase the amount time spent on physical activity and reducing screen time at home.
- Ages and Stages focuses on increasing parental awareness of important milestones in children's social and emotional, physical and cognitive development.
