Strategic Partner and Schools Management System FAQS

As part of the EdIS Programme, EA sought to procure a new strategic partner to replace existing educational technology services in schools, to increase the scale of delivery to include statutory Nursery Schools and expand the scope to include a range of additional services.

What is the background to the contract with Fujitsu?

The EA tendered their requirement as a Strategic Partner and Schools Management System.  Following a robust OJEU compliant procurement process, Fujitsu were awarded the contract in December 2023.

Why were Fujitsu awarded the contract?

Following a robust OJEU compliant procurement process and in line with the Public Procurement Regulations (2015) (mandatory for all Public Sector Organisations) Fujitsu were awarded the contract in line with the published evaluation criteria.

Why will the contract with Fujitsu no longer be delivered?

Following extensive negotiations, the EA and Fujitsu have mutually agreed, on a no-fault basis, not to continue with the EdIS Strategic Partner and School Management System contract.

How will schools be impacted?

Schools will not experience any disruption to services.   All existing services delivered through the current managed service will continue to be delivered and supported.

Schools will benefit from a new School Management System as planned. EdIS staff will continue to implement the new system with the first schools migrated this academic year as previously communicated. Regular updates will follow. We are confident this decision will ultimately be of most benefit to Children and Young People and EdIS will continue to work to deliver benefits ensuring best in class solutions for schools.

What has been the cost of this project to date?

EA has not lost any money as a result of the Fujitsu IT systems no longer being implemented. EA can provide assurance the work completed by its staff to date on this project will be utilised across the EdIS programme including the replacement Schools Management System. 

What team do EA have in place to work on the contract?

The EA team working on this contract has extensive expertise in the procurement and delivery of Education Technology services.  The team is comprised of education professionals including teachers and school leaders, subject matter experts and staff with significant project management experience. 

What happens next?

Continuity of services to schools is guaranteed under the existing Managed Services contract with Capita.  EA will procure a replacement Strategic Partner adhering to relevant procurement regulations.

EA confirm Bromcom Computers Schools Management System will begin rollout this academic year.   The EdIS team are working to ensure that the product implemented fully meets the needs of schools.
