School Counselling and Therapy (Hope Service)

The HOPE Service provides school counselling or therapy for pupils in post primary mainstream, special schools and EOTAS provisions.

This independent service conforms to high professional standards and current best practice for school-based counselling and therapy.

Why is school-based counselling and therapy provided?

At any time, pupils may need additional emotional support, beyond the normal pastoral care offered by teachers. Pupils experiencing emotional problems may find it difficult to engage with learning to reach their potential. The HOPE Service provides an opportunity for pupils to speak to a professional who is not directly involved with their education. By providing emotional support and reducing barriers to learning, the educational outcome is maximised.

Who can access the HOPE Service?

All post primary aged pupils in mainstream schools, special schools and EOTAS provisions can access the HOPE Service. Counselling or therapy is provided according to the developmental stage of each pupil. Referrals can be made by pupils, their parent/carer or a teacher.
